52 Week Challenge - April

Another month, another set of weekly photos!

April 4

Early in the month the brass band my wife perfoms in as one of the lead singers (more on them later) held a late mardis gras themed show (or tardy gras if you will) they are always a great to time shoot.  I didn't get as much as I planned on because it was a smaller venue and the crowd packed the house, so manouvering with my camera was a bit of a challenge. That being said, this was one image that really stood out to me showcasing three of their performers, and showing a little depth in the image going from the center singer, back to the sax player and further back to the sousaphone.

As always, when I'm on a road trip I like to stop and take pictures in small towns along the highway focusing on decaying buildings in particular.  Where this was located, this motel was at one time probably a good stop for anyone on the way to Saskatoon (I think the town was called Hanely), but it appears to have been closed for quite some time now. I doubt the neon lights are still functional, but I would love to come back at night sometime and shoot that sign all lit up (or even just partially lit,, which I think would be even better)

Taken at the Souris Valley Wrestling show that I wrote about.  I don't feel the need to get into that further than I already have, but outside of the in ring action this is one of my favourite shots.  The luchador Spider-fly all fired up during his entrance.  Entrance gear waving behind him, his hair all over the place, and showing off his championships.  There's an energy here that is just awesome.

I told you we would be coming back around to my wife's band again. To gear up for some upcoming shows over the next few months they needed some new promo material. My wife saw the concept on pintrest, and after bouncing around a few ideas, we realized they had the perfect amount of people to pull off a Brady Bunch-esque poster. It was my first time attempting something quite like this, and I think it turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.  It may have been uncomfortable for most of these grown ment to army crawl into a cardboard box that was placed on top of a coffee table, but we made it work. We shot a few different options for each band member and after colour correcting in Lightroom, I stitched them all together in Affinity Photo, and my wife made the logo in Canva.  There were several other options for each member, so we may make use of them in the future if we want to change things up, or use them for other bio pictures.
