Things have been busy over the last couple weeks, so I didn't have time to put together much of a post. However, I do have a follow up on my previous post discussing social media. I finally bit the bullet and created a new Instagram account. As much as I really don't like Meta, and really don't like the idea of more social media in my life, it is unfortunately a necessary evil if I am going to pursue this path I've set out on. So a few weeks back I decided to start up a page again called DazmaPhotography (the same name as my previous account). At the moment, the plan is to post something a couple times a week and mostly use it for promotion and keep it as seperate from my personal page as possible.
One of the positives that has already accomplished was force me to do something that I've been avoiding for a long time time: a self portrait. I know that in the age of people constantly posting selfies it may sound wierd that this is something I've put off, but I truly hate taking selfies and I would really rather prefer being behind the camera. That being said, I needed something for a first post and I have been wanting to push myself out of my comfort zone. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I've been avoiding this tiny little project that's been on my to-do list for ages. I wanted something that said "photographer", but rather than just holding a camera I grabbed my Lego camera that's styled after something like a classic Pentax K1000. I think it helps get across the toy photograohy aspect of what I do.
So yeah, not much a of a post this week, but I'm happy to say that things have been busy. Last weekend, I had a market at Popcon YXE in Saskatoon. Sales weren't the best but there were plenty of positive interactions and I was able to get my name out there a little. There were lots of people who had no idea what I had, and had never heard of toy photography but many who were excited about what they were seeing once it clicked with them. It's aways fun seeing peoples faces light up when they realize what they are seeing and get excited about it. I have another sale coming up May 23rd for the Cathedral Village Street Fair, and I just signed up for two in June as part of Queen City Pride's monthy events. I had been hoping to add some more events to my calendar for the year and these were just what I have been looking for. Hopefully that's a good sign that there's more to come!
